With the introduction of ARM based processor in Macbooks, Mac minis and eventually Mac pros, @Apple has set itself 10 years ahead in the game, from the competition.

Apple’s tight stronghold and control over the developer ecosystem, with strict guidelines on how to develop for the hardware they are putting into their systems, can NEVER be replicated by Microsoft.

Unless @satyanadella upends the windows developer ecosystem and taps github.

Windows as such has a lot of moving components and although Windows 10 as an operating system itself has improved leaps and bounds from the disastrous Vista and Windows 8, it is not quite a match for OSx, especially with the advent of ARM processors in the scene.

Qualcomm based ARM processors have come in Windows Laptops too - by Lenovo, Acer/Asus, etc.But all of them are 30-40% less efficient, and slower compared to even the entry level macbook air m1.

Windows Apps aren’t optimised for ARM and won’t ever be, with current ecosystem.

This is going to be the case unless Microsoft puts a tight leash around guidelines for developers, chip makers, and other software makers.

My bet is still on Microsoft doing a move that will surprise everyone in the next 5 years. What it is, is unknown.

Will have to wait and see.

That said, Apple will continue in OS and ecosystem dominance as a whole. Their pricing power will show in atrocious pricing also for upgrades and repairs.

IF Apple makes desktops with M1 processors and prices them cheaper than what it costs to make for windows, that’d be amazing!

UPDATE:

Apple did make a pseudo desktop with M1 processor (the all new iMac) and it’s freaking awesome. It’s the best value for money desktop in the market right now. You can’t assemble a system with that price, with such serious spec. 4.5k 24-inch monitor, magic keyboard and magic mouse, with M1 processor, 256GB SSD, and 8GB RAM - all for 1.2 lakhs. No better deal in the market right now.
